GRC is not currently recruiting research assistants. These roles involve systems research for Illinois Tech undergraduate and master’s students, with contributions to software, experiments, analysis, and technical communication.

Role responsibilities

  • Research software: Write code for GRC's public systems
  • Cluster experiments: Run studies on the in-house Ares cluster and national facilities
  • Performance analysis: Benchmark systems and interpret the results
  • Technical writing: Prepare documentation and research reports
  • Research communication: Present findings to the research team
  • Publications: Substantial research contributions may lead to co-authorship on conference or journal papers

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at Illinois Tech (undergraduate or master’s program)
  • Completed foundational systems courses, such as operating systems or networks
  • Programming experience in C/C++ or Python
  • Ability to manage independent work and meet commitments
  • Ability to communicate clearly with the research team
  • Availability for at least 10 to 15 hours each week

Preferred experience

  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments
  • Familiarity with version control (Git)
  • Background in parallel programming (MPI, OpenMP)
  • Interest in storage systems, memory architecture, or distributed computing
